A new entrance with its own character
We fitted this hardwood timber door to a house near Halifax. Set into the stone frontage, the deep red exterior gives the entrance a strong focal point, while the light-coloured frame picks out the proportions of the door and the glazed panel above.
The design brings together two tall stained-glass panels, a matching overlight and two solid lower panels. Rather than making the glazing a small decorative extra, the whole entrance is arranged around it.
Stained glass made especially for the project
We had the stained glass specially made for this entrance, and it was incorporated into an encapsulated glazing unit. The coordinated design runs through the door panels and the overlight above.
The photographs show the detail of the design: red borders, soft green and pale blue glass, floral motifs and circular features. The words “Home Sweet Home” appear in the central diamond shapes, with the same design language carried into the wide glazed panel above the door.
Seeing the entrance from both sides is important. Outside, the red door frames the glass against the stonework. Inside, the pale finish lets the coloured glass become the main feature of the hallway.
Coastal brushed stainless steel furniture
The door is fitted with Coastal brushed stainless steel furniture. The lever handle and letterplate provide a restrained contrast to the rich exterior colour and the detailed glass, keeping the finished entrance balanced rather than overly ornate.
